TAP Electric and its affiliates (Forte and BR) are committed to doing charitable work, and we encourage our employees to do the same. Two years ago, we came up with a concept to promote the spirit of charity within our organization. We started a new tradition known as the "Staff Picked Charity Contest" to engage employees to participate in the charity selection process. All employees are asked to submit their favorite charity and to explain why it is meaningful to them. The entries are judged anonymously and the winner is chosen based on the individual’s personal connection to the charity and the level of their effort to convey its worthiness. The winner is announced on Giving Tuesday and their charity receives a $10k donation.
Choosing the winner this year took hours of deliberation, resulting in the Butterfly Effect Project ultimately coming out on top! Two employees separately entered this charity into the contest and both made overwhelmingly convincing arguments for the great work that the organization does. The Butterfly Effect Project aspires to ensure that every child enrolled in the program has a fair chance to broaden their horizons by eliminating obstacles such as mobility, cultural differences and finances. The program has grown to include over 500 children in 19 different chapters throughout Suffolk County.
The Founder and Executive Director of the Butterfly Effect Project, Tijuana Fulford, invited us to one of the chapter's holiday parties. Meeting the kids was so rewarding. They decorated holiday cookies and made Christmas ornaments and hot chocolate gift sets. There was plenty of food, and at the end of the evening, each child received a bundle of holiday gifts to take home with them.
We feel blessed and fortunate to be able to support our community in this way. We have truly been inspired by the fantastic organizations we have interacted with along the way!
